Braedon Hofmann, lutenist

Braedon Hofmann, like many guitarists, had his roots in rock and roll leading him to undergraduate studies in Classical Guitar, Voice, and Composition.

As a gigging and regular performer, Braedon was invited to guest masterclasses with the Montreal and California Guitar Trios, the Vida Guitar Quartet, and an invitation only workshop with Argentinian guitarist Dominic Miller [Sting’s guitar player], and countless popular music events. His musical immersion continued as a member of a Baroque ensemble during his undergraduate playing historical plucked strings.

Prior to graduate studies on lute at Jacob’s School of Music under Nigel North, he received scholarships, awards, and participated in early music festivals such as The Rislov Foundation award, Early Music America’s “Young Performers Festival” and a scholarship to The Lute Society of America’s “Summer Festival”.

Besides working towards his master’s degree in Historical Performance, Braedon, with LLD ® lute in hand, also approaches other musical forms with creativity and gusto, hoping to help thrust the lute into a broader contextual Renaissance.

The passion for early music has led Braedon to be an active proponent of the lute around the country with The LSA’s Outreach Committee and French company Le Luth Doré ®, seeking a greater awareness and exposure to local communities through volunteer demonstrations and a revitalized approach towards popular repertoire on historic instruments.

Currently, Braedon also maintains a large private studio at a local music academy. He enjoys approaching teaching music in such a way that helps students develop a passion and appreciation of their own, with the hope that practicing and playing becomes a great pleasure.
