Taylor di Clemente, lutenist

Taylor di Clemente was born in 1986 in Elkins, West Virginia. He was born to a musical family: he grew up with his father playing guitar and his mother running a piano studio from home. He watched his mother earn advanced degrees in musicology while he was in middle and high school.

Taylor's musical education began with piano lessons at home, and continued with cello lessons and a chair in his middle school string orchestra, and classical guitar lessons and an introduction to lute and viola da gamba in high school and college.

In 2008 Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, wherein he studied classical guitar, Renaissance lute, and viola da gamba with William Simms.

In 2018 Taylor earned a Master of Music degree in Historical Performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana, wherein he studied Renaissance lute, theorbo, archlute, and baroque guitar with Nigel North.

During his time at the Jacobs School of Music, Taylor performed with the Concentus ensemble and worked with Wendy Gillespie, co-founder of Fretwork, with Paul Elliot, co-founder of the Hilliard Ensemble, with Elizabeth Wright and Stanley Ritchie of the Duo Geminiani, and with Dr. Dana Marsh, artistic director of the Washington Bach Consort.

Taylor has also studied the lute with lutenists Paul O'Dette, Ronn McFarlane, Xavier Diaz-Latorre, and the late Pat O'Brien.
